The CG-500 Freezer/Mill® is designed for labs that need fast, reliable cryogenic grinding for large or multiple samples. This high-throughput dual chamber laboratory mill quickly cools and pulverizes tough materials into a fine powder without thermal degradation or cross-contamination. The unit accommodates samples in the 0.1 to 100-gram range (50 gram per grinding chamber).

The Cole-Parmer SamplePrep CG-500 Freezer/Mill processes samples faster with the dual grinding chamber that handles up to 50 grams of sample per chamber. Each chamber holds a variety of vial sizes from large grinding vials to microvial sets. The unit includes two additional pre-cooling chambers for increased efficiency.

Continuous liquid nitrogen immersion maintains cryogenic temperatures ensuring temperature-sensitive samples remain stable, preserving sample integrity. Sealed vials prevent contamination, protecting hazardous or critical materials.

Advanced autofill liquid nitrogen system eliminates manual refilling if liquid nitrogen for effortless operation. The manual fill option is available for labs that prefer hands-on control. Proved dual electromagnetic grinding technology ensures fast and effective pulverization.

The CG-500 Freezer/Mill is built for safety and reliability. The enhanced safety features of the Cole-Parmer SamplePrep Freezer/Mill include a lid interlock system that stops the grinding process if the lid is opened mid-process. The liquid nitrogen sensor automatically shuts down the unit if liquid nitrogen levels are too low, preventing overheating. Please note, the mill must be used in an open, well-ventilated area to avoid condensation-related damage. Protective gear including cryogenic gloves and a face shield is recommended when handling liquid nitrogen.

Actual performance of any vial/sample combination depends on sample properties, cooling time, grinding time, desired outcome, etc. Effective capacity for a given sample is determined by experiment. Overfilling a vial greatly reduces its efficiency.

Typical liquid nitrogen volume needed is 15-19 liters for initial cool-down and filling of the tub. Liquid nitrogen consumption is 4-6 liters for each hour or operation.
