The Cole-Parmer SamplePrep CG-450 Freezer/Mill® is a programmable cryogenic grinder that pulverizes through the toughest samples at cryogenic temperatures. It is ideal for biological, pharmaceutical and food samples, as well as hazardous or critical materials that require safe, efficient processing.
It preserves sample integrity by maintaining constant cryogenic temperatures throughout the grinding process, preventing thermal degradation. Samples are placed in a vial and immersed in a self-contained insulated liquid nitrogen tub, reaching cryogenic temperatures in minutes where they are pulverized with a magnetically driven impactor. Samples remain securely sealed in a closed grinding vial which prevents cross-contamination.
The CG-450 Freezer/Mill provides an effortless and user-friendly design. The high-resolution touchscreen lets you easily set up and store up to 20 grinding programs for easy and quick recall. The user-friendly interface allows you to access integrated training videos, user manual and run history which can be exported to a computer using a USB.
The Freezer/Mill provides powerful and efficient processing. The single grinding and cooling chamber allow pre-cooling and grinding of two sets of samples simultaneously. The CG-450 autofill system automatically transfers liquid nitrogen to the unit during operation, making hand-filling unnecessary. The auto fill mechanism includes a cryogenic valve linked to liquid nitrogen sensors in the tub. When the liquid nitrogen level is low, the valve opens during the precool or cooling stages to let liquid nitrogen into the tub. The auto fill system as supplied also includes a safety valve for the liquid nitrogen transfer hose.
The enhanced safety features of the Cole-Parmer SamplePrep Freezer/Mill include a lid interlock system that stops the grinding process if the lid is opened mid-process. The built-in liquid nitrogen sensor ensures proper cooling, preventing overheating and potential damage. Please note, the mill must be used in an open, well-ventilated area to avoid condensation-related damage. Protective gear including cryogenic gloves and a face shield is recommended when handling liquid nitrogen.
Purchase liquid nitrogen, extractor, and sample vials separately.
Model Number | CG-450 |
Type of Mill | Cryogenic impact mill |
Grinding Vials | One large vial (6801), one mid-size vial (6871, 6881, 6885), one to four small vials (6751, 6761, 6771, 6781S) or one to four microvial set (6757) |
Typical Vial Capacity | Small Vials: actual volume with impactor, approximately 25 ml. Typical sample weight: 2 grams for biological samples, 1 gram for polymers. 6757 Microvial Set: 100-500 mg per individual 6757V microvial, depending on sample. Mid-Size Vials: up to 5 times the sample capacity of small vials. Large Vials: approximately twice the sample capacity of mid-size vials, or up to 10 times that of small vials. Actual performance of any vial/sample combination depends on sample properties, cooling time, grinding time, desired outcome, I2etc. Effective capacity for a given sample is determined by experiment. Overfilling a vial greatly reduces its efficiency. |
